* Newcastle Mela 2024 *

Newcastle Mela is an incredible two day event that takes place every year during the August Bank Holiday weekend in Exhibition Park, Newcastle upon Tyne. It’s free, family friendly and everyone is welcome.

With up to 40,000 visitors from across the region, Newcastle Mela has been taking place for over 25 years and is one of the most vibrant and popular multi-cultural events in the North East.

The event is based around Pakistani, Bengali, Indian and other South Asian cultures and this is your chance to experience the music, food and entertainment associated with these cultures.

We are very proud of the fact that our event is suitable for everybody, no matter what your age or background, there really is something for everyone. Our visitors come from far and wide and once you visit and experience the incredible atmosphere, you will definitely want to come again!

Check out our Past events page to see photos of international artists, stalls, family activities and performances to see what you’ve been missing if you’ve never been before.

Over two days you will be entertained by singers and musicians; enjoy a delicious range of hot and cold foods from our many stall holders; buy clothes, gifts and jewellery; try out art, crafts and activities; and see some incredible performances by circus acts, dance artists and local groups.

Mela means ‘meeting’ or ‘gathering’ in Hindi and we certainly aim to make this year’s event as magical as possible for everyone.

With a line up including the hottest contemporary Asian acts as well as traditional displays of music and dance it’s an event which has historically appealed to all ages and races for generations.
